UpRight Law Scholarship Contest Official Rules

THE UpRight Law Access to Advocacy Award IS OFFERED ONLY IN THE 50 UNITED STATES AND DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA BY UpRight Law LLC (“SPONSOR”) TO PROMOTE ITS ONGOING COMMITMENT TO access to justice. CONTEST BEGINS 12:01 AM CST February 15, 2015 AND ENDS 11:59 PM CST July 15, 2015 (“CONTEST PERIOD”).
Contest is open to legal permanent residents of the 50 United States and District of Columbia.  Entrants must be either (1) currently registered in an accredited law school program; (2) currently accepted to a law school program; or (3) engaged in pre-law curriculum at an accredited four-year college.  Scholarship will only be awarded to the winning entrant upon furnishing proof of law school registration;  entrants who are accepted but not registered, or enrolled in pre-law course work, must register in a law school program to receive scholarship and must do so before July 15, 2019 or entrant/winner will be deemed to have forfeited his or her scholarship. Proof of identity and registration must be furnished upon request.
Entry in the Contest is available only at www.UpRightLaw.com (the “Website”). Entrants must submit an original video 90 to 120 seconds in length on one or more issues or topics relating to the need for the legal profession to adopt modern technologies to increase access to legal services and lower the cost for such services. The video may not contain any work (in whole or in part) which is the subject of a copyright, trademark or brand name of a third party. Video must not include anything that is inappropriate for publication (such as, profanity, nudity, hate speech, illegal conduct or gratuitous violence) or that disparages or adversely affects the goodwill and reputation of UpRight Law LLC. Video must address the Contest theme, must be truthful and accurate, and must not have been submitted to any other competition or contest or have received an award prior to submission as an entry in this Contest.  Once submitted, the video may not be modified, edited or replaced by the entrant. Video must be the original work of the entrant.  Upon submission, Sponsor is granted the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to display, reproduce, distribute, publish and create derivative works of the video in any format or medium.  Sponsor reserves the right to remove any submission for any reason.
To enter the Contest, access the website during the Contest Period, complete the official entry form on the Contest website and submit it and the video entry as directed. Entry and related materials must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM Central Standard Time on May 31, 2015.  Limit of one entry per person. No joint, group or team entries are allowed.  All video submissions become property of UpRight Law.



Judging of entries:
1. Voting by the public from the UpRight Law LLC website will determine nine (9) finalists entries that will be submitted to an UpRight Law Scholarship Committee; the Committee will award one (1) scholarship winner.  The Committee will choose the winner, at its sole discretion, based on the following factors:  responsiveness to the Contest theme; originality; and creativity.  Voting will be open to the public beginning at 12:01 AM Central Standard Time on June 1, 2015 and will end at 11:59 PM Central Standard Time on June 30, 2015. The winning entry will be announced by the Committee on July 15, 2015 on the Contest website. Sponsor reserves the right to modify or delay the public voting period by posting a notice to such effect on the website. POSTED FINALIST VIDEOS REPRESENT SOLELY THE VIEWS/OPINIONS OF THE INDIVIDUAL FINALIST AND DO NOT REFLECT THE VIEWS/OPINIONS OF SPONSOR IN ANY MANNER. Voting will be restricted to those individuals who are 18 years of age or older. There will be a limit of one vote per person or email address per day. Any attempt by a finalist to manipulate or undermine the integrity of the voting as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion will result in disqualification, with the understanding that disqualification shall not represent the sole remedy available to Sponsor. Vote tallies are provided solely for informational purposes and are not binding upon UpRight Law LLC.
2. The winning entrant will receive a $5,000.00 scholarship award for tuition, books, or fees.
3. The scholarship will be awarded in the form of a check payable to the scholarship winner upon furnishing proof of law school registration.  A winners who is either accepted to law school but not registered or enrolled in pre-law coursework but not registered must register for courses at an accredited law school as a condition of receiving their award.
4. Prizes may not be transferred except where expressly indicated otherwise, or with the written permission of UpRight Law LLC in its sole discretion. Winners are solely responsible for all taxes on prize(s) and any expenses not specified relating to the acceptance and use of prize(s). An IRS Form 1099 may be issued to the winners.  Determination as to whether a school is properly accredited and/or a winner is properly enrolled in a school shall be made by Sponsor in its sole discretion; and winners will be responsible for promptly providing any documentation relating thereto requested by Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right to contact the school directly.

By participating, entrants: (a) agree to these Official Rules and to the decisions of the judges and the Sponsor and its agents in all matters, including the voting process, relating to the Contest, which decisions shall be final and binding in all respects; (b) release, indemnify and hold harmless UpRight Law LLC and its officers and employees, as well as Facebook and YouTube, from any and all claims, liabilities, losses or damages of any kind whatsoever (including but not limited to the infringement of trademark, copyright or similar rights of third parties or any liability as to failure of Sponsor or its agents to screen or monitor finalists’ videos prior to posting online) resulting in whole or in part from their participation in the Contest and the acceptance and use of prize(s); (c) if a winner, consent (except where prohibited by law) to the use of their video submission for advertising and publicity purposes by Sponsor, in its sole discretion, of its products and services and for promotion of UpRight Law and access to advocacy; and (d) represent that the video submitted is their sole and original work and does not infringe the trademark, copyright or similar rights of any other party. Entrants agree that Sponsor and its agents are not responsible for late, lost or misdirected entries, or for error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of entry materials, or for technical, network, computer, hardware or software malfunctions of any kind, or inaccurate transmission of or failure of Sponsor and its agents to receive entries for any reason whatsoever or for any errors, mishaps or problems, regardless of the cause, in the voting process or the operation of the Contest. In the event Sponsor determines that the integrity of the Contest has been impaired or corrupted for any reason and as a result cannot be offered or completed as planned, Sponsor (subject to any governmental approval that may be required) reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel or terminate the Contest and to select finalists from among eligible entrants legitimately received prior to the event causing cancellation or termination or otherwise in a manner determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion to be fair, appropriate and consistent with these Official Rules; and notice of cancellation will be posted at www.uprightlaw.com. The failure of Sponsor to enforce any provision of these Official Rules in a given instance shall not constitute the waiver of such provision.
The Contest shall be governed by and interpreted under the internal laws of the State of Illinois (that is, excluding choice-of-law/conflict-of-law principles) and any legal action concerning the Contest shall be brought only in a state or federal court located in Chicago, Illinois. In all circumstances, a legal action must be brought individually, NOT as part of a class action and the participant will only be able to recover his/her actual out-of-pocket costs (if any) in conjunction with participation in the Contest and expressly waives any right to all other damages (including but not limited to compensatory, incidental, consequential or punitive damages).
To obtain a copy of the official rules or for a list scholarship prize winners (available after July 15 , 2015) mail a self-addressed envelope to 2015 Access to Advocacy Award c/o The Office of the Managing Partner at 79 W Monroe, 5th Floor, Chicago, IL 60603 for receipt by June 30, 2015.  Please mark envelope “official rules” or “winners list.”
